Friendship versus Duty to a People

On October 6, 2012, Dr. Waddell hosted a business lunch for a physician friend. At the end of this lunch, Dr. Waddell told his friend that he was unsuitable to hold an administrative position within the Medical Staff for a variety of reasons. The following summarizes Dr. Waddell’s conflict and its final outcome.

“The path of least resistance for my life in Moose Factory is to let my best friend stay on as Director of Family Medicine. But there are 10 other GPs, other docs, tons of nurses, and 11,000 people who count on me to make the right choice, not the easy road, and that is what I intend to do. It cost me a friend, which makes me tremendously sad for now, but maintains my soul, which will bring me great peace, forever. “
