Dr. John Waddell commenced a Facebook awareness campaign on May 6, 2017. In it, he raised serious allegations about the quality of patient care dispensed by the hospital's Medical Staff. The first post read;
Would anyone who either lives/lived or works/worked in the Mushkegowuk Territory be at all interested in how the health system run by the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority kills, maims and endangers the patients of the region? I have an incredible list of true stories that I’d love to tell over the next year that many would find informative from the ten years I served in the region before the Chief of Staff, the CEO, the Chief of Family Medicine and their hired hitmen ran me out of town.
The campaign quickly caught the attention of many that included the patients' most senior elected officials, Grand Chief Jonathon Solomon of the Mushkegowuk Territory and his Council. The Chief made requests to senior government officials that an investigation be undertaken; those included to Minister of Health Canada Dr. Jane Philpott, and the Ontario Minister of Health & Long-Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins.
From this eventually came an Order of Council issued by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario on October 25, 2017.
It read in part,
The Minister intends to appoint an inspector to conduct a review of clinical operations at the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority.
with the entire document found below.
In the Blog titled 'Inspector' you may read about the authority of an inpector as found in the Public Hospital Act.
